I love finding different ways to decorate for the holidays each year. While I do love a traditional red and green Christmas tree and mantel, I also love to inject bright, vibrant colors into the holidays. This bright candy themed tree and mantle were inspired by the Nutcracker ballet and the Sugar Plum fairy and the land of sweets. The tree is decked out in glimmering and colorful DIY candy themed ornaments while the mantel is full of gilded trees and a festive fringe garland. Even the presents are getting the candy treatment with giant peppermint candies taped onto the wrapped boxes.
I began by decorating the mantel with DIY gold glitter 3D trees. These trees are super easy to make and really bring the wow factor when grouped together to fill the mantel! Under the mantel is the DIY piñata fringe garland that was made with plastic tablecloths. Yes, those tablecloths that come in all the vibrant colors are good for more than just covering a table. They make the perfect fringe for decorating with. Just be sure to only use this fringe garland on a non-working fireplace! To see how I made this DIY mantel fringe here.
To finish out the mantel, a few mini disco balls and gold mercury glass candles were added to up the shine factor!
Once the mantel was finished, it was on to the tree. The tree is covered in 5 different DIY candy themed ornaments all of which coordinate with the colorful fringe garland and trees on the mantel. The first up are super cute color blocked gingerbread men with gold detailing. Next are a simple craft that both kids and adults love, rainbow chenille stem candy canes. The giant hard candy wrapped in cello wrap look just like colorful hard candies, only much, much bigger! They are so easy to make and my personal favorites. Then there are DIY small bead candies made from painted wood beads. And last but not least DIY glittery gum drops made from foam eggs and iridescent glitter!
In addition to the DIY ornaments, there are also real candy canes, silver ribbon, and more disco balls decking out the tree. The silver disco balls and silver metallic ribbon add to the shimmer qualities of the tree and coordinate well with the glitter specked trees on the mantel and the shiny fringe mantel garland.
The finishing touch to the tree was a fun pom pom star tree topper that reminded me of a giant sprinkle covered Christmas cookie!
The finishing touch to the whole scene were the wrapped gifts. Fadeless paper in colors to match the tree and mantel were used to wrap gift boxes and giant hard candy decorations were taped to the front of the gifts to give them a sweet look.
What are your thoughts on this candy themed Sugar Plum fairy inspired Christmas set up? Too colorful for your tastes, or just right?
