Boy's Tropical First Birthday Party

Boy's Tropical First Birthday Party

You'll love this easy breezy Boy's Tropical First Birthday Party to celebrate the first year of baby's life! With lots of natural elements like palm leaves, coconut shells, bamboo, and kukui nuts, this neutral first birthday party is perfect for a little boy. Colorful Candy Kabob Treats are easy to make with tasty tropical candies. Party guests will love picking a lei to wear for the party from a DIY Tropical Lei Stand. Lots of lush, green tropical leaves and flowers make our Tropical Bamboo Floral Centerpiece a gorgeous highlight of this fun party.

A baby's first year of life is filled with lots of milestones and growth, so celebrate that important first year with a tropical birthday party. This one year birthday luau was created for a baby boy, but you could easily adapt this party for a baby girl by adding more flowers and color. Many of the ideas could also be used for a tropical baby shower, bridal shower, birthday party, summer party, graduation party, or a regular luau!

Because this luau was created for a boy, we kept the colors minimal and more neutral, mostly using lush greens, white, and yellow. This gave the party more of a clean, modern feel while embracing the natural tropical theme.

Tropical Dining Table

Guests were greeted with a lovely table where they could sit and chat with family and friends. A raffia and seashell table skirt was attached around the table to add an island feel to the party.

At the center of the table was a stunning Tropical Bamboo Floral Centerpiece I created. Can you believe that the bamboo vase is made from paper bamboo straws? Get the easy instructions for how to make your own tropical flower arrangement here.

Running down the center of the table are some large tropical leaves with a palm garland on top and some scattered white starfish to add to the seaside theme.

Each place setting had multiple layers to add depth and create interest for guests. The base of each place setting consisted of a large palm tree paper placemat and a bamboo fan. I angled each of these to be more visually interesting, then placed a tropical leaf on top of each fan.

Tropical leaf paper plates, white dessert plates and tropical leaf napkins were all stacked on each other. A white starfish on top of each napkin finished off the look.

tropical-luau-first-birthday-party-3I removed the flower that came attached to each natural-looking coconut cup, then added a stunning white plumeria flower to each coconut. Guests will never know that these flowers are actually hair clips! They have a clip already attached to the back that opens and closes so they were very easy to attach to the coconuts.

Tropical Luau Party Table

The main party table was covered in burlap with lots of large tropical leaves added to the top to create depth and add more color.

I hung colorful leis, kukui nut leis, and tropical leaf leis on both sides of our stand for guests to easily pick their favorite lei to celebrate baby boy's birthday. A bamboo sign in front of the lei stand invited guests to take a lei. Learn how to make your own Tropical Lei Stand here!

I decorated some gorgeous sugar cookies with dark green palm fronds that matched the rest of the party and placed them on a bamboo fan. Place a paper or plastic plate underneath your cookies to ensure food safety at your dessert table.

A fern garland and pretty plumeria flower garland were placed behind the cookies.

I filled two coconut cups with colorful fun Candy Kabob Treats that were a hit with everyone! You can make these candy kabobs ahead of time to share at the party with everyone.

Our Candy Kabob Treats were placed on two wood risers to give additional dimension to the table.

Rattan candle holders matched with our party theme perfectly and were displayed on each side of the table.

Tropical Party Backdrop

To create the palm leaves backdrop for the party, I attached some tropical material I already had to the back wall. You could use this tropical leaf tablecloth roll if you don't have fabric readily available. I wanted all the edges around the fabric to look neat and complete, so I used the paper palm tree placemats to create a border around the side edges. Across the top I added a plumeria garland to soften the look a bit.

This party was such a blast to put together, and I'm thrilled to be able to share it with you!
