Being a big Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper fan, I instantly fell in love with Joanna's Book Themed Baby Shower when I first saw it on Instagram. I used some of the concepts that I loved the most from her baby boy shower, like the color scheme, a balloon garland above the party table, and an oversized book, and then put my own creative spin on it. I just love how inviting this book baby shower is!

One of the great things about a Book Themed Baby Shower is that the mom-to-be will leave with a small library of books to read to her new baby. Just make sure to include a request in the invitation so guests know to bring a book for the new baby.
Of course I had to have a shiplap backdrop for this party! Since I don't have real shiplap walls, this shiplap bulletin board paper worked perfectly to create the look I was going for.

The most colorful part of our Book Themed Baby Shower was the fun balloon garland. I used green, emerald green, lime green, light blue, turquoise, and white balloons that I blew up in various sizes with an electric air balloon pump - no helium necessary!
Underneath the balloons sat a giant book I made out of foam board and posterboard. I used a piece of leaf ribbon as a long bookmark that matched the rest of the natural wood and leaf touches throughout the party.

The leaf ribbon also hung from a tall white bookshelf that held lots of colorful books from beloved children's book authors.

Fresh veggies and fruit were a healthy snack for party guests and added a lot of color to the table.

A darling three-tiered wood serving tray was the perfect size for holding fresh oranges and apples.

A few green palm fronds were added to a natural wood vase that my uncle made.
At the base of the other side of the table sat a green wood crate where guests placed children's books to start the baby's library.

The words "Tell me a story" are made from wood letters. Learn how to make this Personalized Book Crate here!
Book Party Place Settings
Each table for guests had similar place settings with slightly different color variations.

I painted DIY Book Page Placemats in various shades of green and blue. I love how you can still see the words from the book pages through the watercolor wash. These were a very inexpensive way to add pops of color to the tables! White dinner plates, green dessert plates, napkins, small white journals, and personalized pencils that say "Welcome sweet baby boy" were all stacked on top of the colorful placemats.
Green drinks were placed in clear soda bottles with some leaf ribbon tied around the top.

Each table also had a mini wood crate filled with more palm fronds and a children's book inside. This crate served as a fun centerpiece at each table.
