Instead of a typical baby shower, why not invite your friends and family over for a sweet sip and see to celebrate the arrival of your new bundle? Since the occasion is typically hosted in the new parents' home, guests can drop by to meet baby when it's most convenient! This type of celebration can easily be done with either a small intimate group or in a socially distanced manner, too! Have friends and family that still want to join but can't make it in person? Host a virtual sip and see to make sure everyone can join in the fun! Here are some simple DIY ideas to style your own sip and see with a muted, gender neutral color palette that will make all of your guests feel welcome!
Rainbow Decor with a Soothing Color Palette
We kept the overall decor of our space sweet and simple, save for a few beautiful elements that can later be used to dress up baby's nursery. All the items are easily transportable as well, should the occasion need to be moved outdoors as a drive-by event during a pandemic!
A boho-inspired rattan chair sat next to our dessert table and was the perfect perch for mama to sit and open gifts and present her sweet new babe to guests! Rainbow details such as the Boho Rainbow Wall Hanging, DIY Rainbow Banner and Rainbow Baby Mobile rounded out the bright and sunny mood of the gathering.
Our Boho Rainbow Wall Hanging puts the fun in FUNctional and supplied a splash of happy to the wall behind our dessert table! The wall hanging not only set the tone for the whole gathering, but is a cheerful addition to the new bundle's soothing nursery decor! Win win!
We crafted a gorgeous swag from bundles of Pampas Grass, various dried flowers, faux flowers and blush zinnias to hang over our Boho Rainbow Wall Hanging.
Strung up next to the rainbow wall hanging was the absolute cutest clay Rainbow Baby Mobile. You can find the steps to create your own mobile using a Large Embroidery hoop, felt wool pom poms and wood beads here. We know the new baby will love watching this mobile twist and turn over a crib!
The front of our dessert table received a splash of color thanks to our DIY Rainbow Baby Banner, which was crafted from DIY Unfinished Wood Banner Squares and DIY Unfinished Wood Discs. Since the wooden letters that spell out the word "baby" are lightly attached with a few dabs of hot glue, they can easily be removed, leaving an adorable rainbow banner for baby's nursery!

Another FUNctional piece of artwork was created by attaching varying sizes of wood circles that had been cut in half, painted in a color palette that coordinated with our theme and then attached to a DIY Slat Sign. The simple, yet smashing sign was hung in the nursery after the sip & see was over. An Amber Ridged Glass Vase, filled with pink and yellow florals, along with a gold-painted taper candle holder and taller candle holder sat nearby.
Rounding out the decor of our dessert table was a Two Handle Ceramic Vase filled with a bevy of beautiful blooms and a Pink Glass Bud Vase, filled with bunny tails, which we spray painted blush for a more opaque look.
The Tablescape
Running down the center of our dining table was a Gray Gauze Table Runner that we dyed a light teal color to coordinate with our color palette. We adore the way it helped our other centerpiece items to really pop off the table!
A Rattan Natural Lantern with Handle stood tall in the center of our table and tied in nicely with the natural elements of our furniture.
The rattan lantern was balanced on either side with Amber Ridged Glass Vases filled with small bouquets, Pink Glass Bud Vases that held simple bunny tails, taper candles and DIY rainbows. Clear Hobnail Glass Votives were given a makeover with taupe paint and sat at each end of the table.
A favorite element of the centerpiece was the Clear Bulb Shape Bud Vases that acted as candle holders. The vases were filled with wood beads and painted to coordinate with our color palette.
DIY Unfinished Wood Discs were cut in half and painted in our rainbow colors and looked fetching nestled within our centerpiece decor.
Pleasing Place Settings
Although our dining table was originally set for six, it was a cinch to reset as guests came and went.
Creme Solid Scalloped Dinner Plates rested upon natural woven placemats we had on hand. Blush Polka Dot Dessert Plates and Oh Baby Creme and Gold Dessert Plates were then placed in the center of the dinner plates.
Premium Metallic Plastic Forks received a touch of teal paint and rested upon Blush Polka Dot Dinner Napkins.
Premium Gold Trimmed Plastic Tumblers and Premium Clear Crystal Plastic Wine Glasses sat at each place setting waiting to be filled.
Thank you gifts tucked into DIY Mini Canvas Drawstring Bags were also placed at each place setting. The bags were dressed up with painted DIY Unfinished Wood Circles and yarn tassels flaunting painted wood beads.
One of our favorite details for any party is to dress up the back of the guest of honor's chair. Here we cut and painted DIY Unpainted Wood Discs and tied them together with creme colored yarn.
Delightful Desserts
In between chatting and baby snuggles, guests noshed on yummy cake and macarons from our dessert station.
A simple naked cake was topped with a DIY cake topper that was created by first cutting a DIY Unfinished Wood Disc in half and then painting it with our rainbow colors.
Mouthwatering macarons were served alongside the cake and were easy to replenish as guests came and went. Candles and a White Ceramic Bottle Vase, painted taupe and filled with florals, effortlessly decorated the end of the dessert table.
As guests mingled, mama and baby were toasted with a sip of bubbly. Fresh bottles were kept on-hand and blended well with our decor.
