What does every nine year old dream of? An afternoon of art and fun with her besties to celebrate turning nine! This enchanting afternoon of arts and crafts under the trees is easy to assemble and recreate. Your budding artist will be on cloud nine! So grab a paintbrush and join in on the fun.
The Tablescape: To get started I created a colorful backdrop using some wrapping paper; it is colorful, fun and inexpensive. Since this was a boho chic art party I wanted elements to be rustic and whimsical. As a result, the backyard fence made the perfect backdrop for our table. I used some wooden hoops, gold metallic chargers, assorted doilies and fabric scraps to create dreamcatchers. This was a wonderful craft to create with my daughter. She loved getting hands-on for the party planning. You can check out the details for the DIY dreamcatchers here. We attached them to the fence with small nails and then played around with layering them with the other background elements. On top of the dreamcatchers I used some wooden letters spray painted in gold glitter to spell out the word "nine." A gold "celebrate" banner finished out the look.
For the table, I started with some fabric I fell in love with. It reminded me of stained glass! I headed out to my favorite paint store and got a few swatches to match the colors. I created a simple garland out of paint swatches and paintbrushes. Mini clothespins were used to attach the swatches to gold baker's twine. This simple garland was an easy way to dress up our cake table.
We kept the food simple and easy since it was a backyard affair; just a few artist-themed snacks and of course the cake. A wooden artist palette was used as a platter and mini canvases on easels were used to label the snacks.
The Kid's Table:
The DIY tee pee took on a boho transformation when we added some aqua lace, ribbon and fresh flowers. A galvanized bucket held all of the birthday presents as they arrived. The kids' table was covered in white tablecloths and wrapping paper remnants to create a table runner down the center of the table. Crates and spray painted berry baskets held crafting notions, ribbon, lace, yarn, beads, feathers etc. Freshly cut wood stools made for inexpensive, easy seating around the crafting table. To create a cozy atmosphere I strung some baker's twine between two trees so I could drape light pink and light fringe streamers across the yard. Gold metallic chargers acted as dreamcatchers and were added tot he baker's twine as well. The streamers and lace danced in the wind providing a whimsical touch to the party as the girls were crafting.
Providing a personal touch is always key. Each place setting was set with a canvas and a paint palette topped off by a colorful paint swatch and foam brush. Pretty pink painted canvases were used as place cards. They sat on mini art easels that I decorated with white vinyl to spell out each guest's name. The girls giggled with excitement as they found their crafting spot for the afternoon.
The Activities:
The girls created and crafted the afternoon away. They used washi tape and paint to create mini masterpieces on their canvases. Ribbons, feathers, beads and other crafting supplies were used to create one of a kind dreamcatchers. They were each so creative and colorful.
