The time has come for your little darling to turn one, and what better way to celebrate than with this Berry Sweet First Birthday Party? This theme is truly timeless and can be adapted in so many fun ways. I used the colors of fresh summer berries and added feminine pink and crisp white to give the party a fresh & modern look while retaining the much-loved rustic berry farm vibe. Setting up picnic-style outside and styling with natural woods, balloons, garlands and lanterns will make it look like you spent hours DIY'ing. We're sure this party set-up is one your guests of all ages will love.
Farm Fresh Table
I used a tabletop on top of crates to create a low picnic-style table outside. Using blankets and cushions for seating. To give the table a charming modern farmhouse look I used a combination of Light Pink Gingham Tablecloth Roll with a deep red bold buffalo plaid.
Down the center of the table, I used the berries themselves as décor. Filling berry baskets with blueberries, strawberries and blackberries.
Wood slices under the baskets anchor these and create traditional centerpieces. I added a berry pie, napkins, a cookie and personalized candy bar to complete the vignettes.
For place settings, I layered Round Paper Dinner Plates with Mixed Berry Dinner Plates. I then tucked a Mixed Berry Luncheon Napkin under the plate.
Next, I placed a Wooden Cutlery Set to the side of the setting added a Round Sipper Cup in Blue next to these. I had fun with these, adding faux green leaves to make the cups look like ripe round blueberries.
Next, I added take home gifts that doubled as pretty table décor and placecards. These simple party favors were made by painting a DIY Ceramic Watering Can Planter red, adding a pink vinyl name decal and filling with daisies & babys breath. I accented these with a delicious strawberry sugar cookie.
Berry Sweet Desserts
I set up the dessert table under a fabulous tree filled with Berry Lanterns.
On one side of the dessert table, I used the statement making Balloon Block Boxes adding the BABY stickers provided to the front of the boxes. These boxes are also easy to customize using vinyl, large letter stickers or a chalk marker. You could add your child's name or age to the box instead of the provided "Baby" or "Love" letters. I also added berry embellishments to the outside of the boxes. These were taken from the Berry Garland. Baby is turning one with style!
Finally, I filled the boxes with white, red polka dot, pink and green balloons.
To coordinate with the eating table I used the same pink gingham and red buffalo plaid to cover the dessert table.
In the center of the table, I placed a Pie & Cake Stand on top of a wood slice to showcase a naked cake topped with fresh cream, berries and edible chamomile flowers.
In front of the cake, I placed a Long White Platter with beautiful berry-themed cookies by Trophy Baking here in Portland.
To the left of the cake I filled a Rectangular Basket with Top Handles with candy bars. These were easily personalized with Personalized Berry Party Candy Labels. For the younger guests I like to provide “mini” sized desserts.
I used smaller cupcake stands for mini pies, another cake stand for pancake stacks and Berry Treat Cups for fresh berries to snack on.
On the other side of the cake, more of the same desserts in addition to a basket filled with Personalized Berry Party Swirl Pops, these make a great take-home for younger guests.
Under the dessert table, I had a supply of Berry Gift Bags for guests to take home favors and leftovers.
A Sweeter Seat
There are always siblings and smaller kids at 1st birthday parties, so I like to have a kid’s table set up in addition to the tables for parents, family and friends.
I used a small pink table with red buffalo plaid as a cover.
I set the table using Round Paper Dinner Plates as chargers for the most adorable kids’ plates! The Berry Paper Dessert Plates, they are the shape of a strawberry and absolutely darling. I added a Mixed Berry Luncheon Napkin under the plate and wooden cutlery in addition to a Round Sipper Cup Red that I turned into a strawberry cup using a chalk pen and faux leaves.
At each seating, I added Strawberry Scented Stickers (Who doesn’t love stickers that smell?) and a pair of Strawberry Sunglasses.
The sunglasses were a sibling favorite.
Berry Sweet Kids Area
The kid’s table was part of a fun area for the kids to play, take photos, play in the garden, grab fun toys & favors as well as a cup of sweet berry juice.
I decorated this area with the guest-of-honor in mind, placing their highchair in the center of the action with a beautiful balloon garland framing the chair.
This makes for great first birthday photos, doubling as a backdrop to the cake smash and a general photobooth for all. I used red polka dot, pink and green balloons for the base arch, and then added Strawberry Mylar Balloons to the arch. Under the arch, I plumed out the arch using Berry Cutouts.
Next to the highchair and balloon garland I placed a Strawberry Cardboard Cutout to complete the look and entertain the older kids! Some may have taken a bite.
The highchair was very easy to decorate using the Berry High Chair Kit. It came with a mat to put under the chair as well as a garland.
I added some ribbon to the garland in addition to some cutouts from the Berry Garland.
I love to have a smash cake for the guest-of-honor. I used a matching white cake stand to display the smaller naked cake.
Next to the cake I had a Tutti Frutti Kids Headband for the birthday child to wear for the cake smash photos - although the older girls were rather partial to these!
The Taste of Summer
I sat up my farm stand on the other side of the highchair, both for proximity to the kids table and for the aesthetics of being in the background of smash cake photos.
I decorated the farm stand with the Berry Garland kit. Then I added a Two Handled Ceramic Vase filled with summer meadow flowers, a vintage strawberry jar and a Square Craft Basket as decorative accents. Finally, I placed two large Beverage Dispensers on the stand filled with sweet summer juice.
A Berry Sweet Goodbye
Finally, I used a Bushel Basket Stand-Up display, lined with red buffalo plaid to hold favors & toys for the kids to have fun with.
The baskets were filled with Strawberry Bead Hot & Cold Sensory Packs and Strawberry Sunglasses.
And Strawberry Cello Bags filled with candy, of course!
The sun is out, berry picking has started, and it's time to celebrate your little one's milestone birthday with love. I hope you've found more than enough inspiration from this Berry Sweet First Birthday Party setup!
