Get your backyard fiesta-ready with these simple ideas for a fun-filled outdoor summer party. These party ideas are perfect for Cinco de Mayo or a special summer gathering of friends and neighbors. To get your backyard party ready, create a backdrop for your patio table with paper fans, decorate the table with cacti and pom-poms and hang a piñata from the tree! This DIY Fiesta Wreath can add major color to your outdoor space. Don't forget to incorporate some outdoor activities for the kids such as this simple DIY balloon dart game.
Party Decor
Our vine covered fence was made party ready with the addition of bright tissue paper fans. Just hang the fans from a fence or trees for instant impact! We added other fiesta touches throughout the yard such as cloth fiesta bunting along the back fence and several fiesta tissue paper hanging tassels strung from the trees. We also hung a piñata from the tree which was the highlight of the fiesta!
To create a colorful seating area, I hung this DIY paper fan fiesta wreath over our outdoor bench and added a cactus serape pillow for a festive touch. Learn how to make the wreath here.
I also set these paper fiesta luminary bags along the patio that glowed with battery-operated candles as the sun was setting.
Tablescape
Our outdoor picnic table was transformed thanks to a few easy decorations. I started with a simple DIY tablecloth that I made by gluing lengths of wide rick rack to a basic canvas painters' drop cloth. On top of the table I added the cutest cactus table decor which comes in a set of three. I also scattered yarn pom-poms down the center of the table. At each place setting there was a sturdy scalloped plastic dinner plate with a fiesta fringe napkin and mini donkey on top. Not only is the donkey cute, it prevents the napkin from blowing away! For the drinks, I used basic white paper cups accented with a fun fiesta straw.
Party Games
A backyard party is twice as fun with outdoor games! In addition to the piñata, I created a simple DIY balloon dart game for the kids to play along the back fence. See how to make the balloon game here. They also had fun playing with the fiesta spin tops and fiesta catch ball game.
It doesn't have to be a special occasion to get friends and family together. Take advantage of the warm summer days by having an impromptu fiesta in your backyard. With a few simple decorations, a festive table with disposable tableware making for an easy clean-up, and a couple outdoor games to keep guests busy, you can have an instant party!
