Go colorful this Halloween with a full on neon 80's vibe. Neon colored paper lanterns in a DIY asymmetrical garland pair perfectly with black and white geometric lanterns, cake, and runner. Plus a little DIY Memphis patterned wall take the colorful Halloween party to a whole other level. Add in a few painted pumpkins in shades of pink, orange, yellow, and blue and of course a few spiders and you have yourself one colorful Halloween party just ready to spook and delight your guests!
If you are anything like me, you like the nontraditional when it comes to holidays. I love playing with the feeling of the holiday, but completely turning it on its head from what is expected. And Halloween in no exception. For this colorful 80's inspired Halloween party, the focal point was the DIY paper fan garland that flowed over the dessert table. But what really drove home the 80's Halloween feeling was the simple vinyl wall treatment.
To make your own, use a pair of scissors to cut black adhesive vinyl into triangles, squiggles, and circles. Then peel and stick to the wall for a removable 80's wall treatment.
To mimic the look of the wall on the cake, black fondant was rolled out a cut into triangles and stuck to a plain white iced cake. The geometric pattern is very reminiscent of the popular 1980's Memphis patterns, but really fits in with the traditional black and white of Halloween. A few plastic spider rings bring home the Halloween look.
To make the cake serving simple, paper plates in neon colors of pink, orange, green, and yellow are stacked in the dessert stand shelves along with gold plastic forks, neon painted pumpkins, and extra tissue paper pom poms and lanterns.
The top of the dessert stand is covered with a black and white stripe table runner and battery operated neon orange and black drip candles.
One final DIY, and an easy one at that, is simple painted skeleton hand cups. Use either acrylic craft paint or spray paint to paint just the skeleton hands of the drink ware for a colorful but spooky look.
And don't forget those spiders, a few giant spiders tucked here and there add a little spooky to this otherwise colorful party.
As you can see the giant asymmetrical paper garland really takes the show, but it's all the elements together (patterned wall, colorful pumpkins, pop art skeleton hand cups, and geometric cake) that really pull the entire party dessert table together. Now just repeat the process with your food table and your guests won't know whether to be scared or excited at your Halloween party.
