Reading with 1:1 correspondence is a skill that our developing readers needs to be taught, modeled, and given lots of opportunities for practice, so that they read the words that they actually see. Our emerging readers also need to understand that we read from left to right and from top to bottom. These concepts of print are foundational to their success as lifelong readers! While students can use their fingers to read, using fun reading pointers will boost their motivation and excitement to read!
I'm all about organization, so I store my reading pointers in this Caddy with Cups and added a Reading Pointers label (FREE download) to the front. The caddy is the perfect size for holding our favorite reading pointers and makes them easily accessible during guided reading groups, independent reading time, or even whole class. Here are six of our favorite reading pointers!

I have two words for these Car Finger Beams—WAY COOL! A car on your finger would be exciting enough, but when you show your students that they can push the hood button forward to turn on a light beam to read you will become the world's greatest teacher! Who wouldn't want to track their words with a car finger beam? These provide instant motivation, excitement, and fun for all readers!
