1. Dinosaur Dig Letter HuntAs a child, I always dreamed about being a dinosaur, exploring fossils, or pretending to be a paleontologist. This activity turned my childhood dream into a reality. My students loved dressing up in a vest and hat as they became paleontologists and as they dug into a camo cooler filled with clay dinosaur letter fossils! Students picked out a fossil from the cooler, brushed it off, identified the letter, and colored in the corresponding letter on the recording sheet. 2. Dinosaur Letter Identification: Clip & SayCreate this dinosaur letter identification "clip and say" game with Dinosaur Library Dividers and alphabet sticker sheets. Using a Sharpie marker, I wrote a lowercase letter on the dinosaur library dividers, and I placed letter stickers on each dinosaur divider. Students must use Bright Colored Clothespins to clip the letters that match the letter indicated on each dinosaur library divider. This activity is perfect for focusing on letter identification.
3. Uppercase and Lowercase Writing PracticeLetter printing practice is so important in any kindergarten classroom. This fossil writing practice is great for focusing on letter identification and printing, and my students loved it too! I created a free fossil letter printable that I placed in each See-Through Bug Jar. On the bottom of each jar, I wrote a number from 1 to 26. In this activity, students must identify the letter in each see-through bug jar, identify the number on the bottom, and find the number on the free recording sheet. Students must then write both the uppercase and lowercase letter on the recording sheet that corresponds with each number. Download the Free Dinosaur Letter Identification Activity Printable here!
4. Find-a-Fossil: Dinosaur Lettering MatchThis Dinosaur Matching Game is the perfect way to focus on letter identification and strategy. Using a Sharpie® marker, I wrote uppercase and lowercase letters on each set of matching cards. Flip a card over and identify the letter. Flip over another card, identify the letter, and see if you made a match. Continue this process until a player finds an uppercase and lowercase letter match. When they do, they may put the cards together and place them aside. Continue the game until all cards are matched.
5. Decorate a Dinosaur EggSpark your students' creativity by having them decorate their very own dinosaur egg! I had my students use Sharpie markers to decorate a DIY Easter Egg. My students loved choosing their very own baby dinosaur to take home with them!
